The Open Mainframe Project
Run by the Linux Foundation, The Open Mainframe Project (OMP) focuses on using Linux and Open Source inside mainframe computing environments. Open Source is a collective effort among leading organizations that leverage mainframe design principles—security, stability, scalability, and performance—as a competitive advantage.
When OMP launched in 2015, BMC Software, Compuware, and RSM Partners were among the founding members. Today, all these companies are part of BMC. We’re proud to contribute The Workflow WiZard, and we’re actively working on more contributions for the open-source community.
The first of its kind, Zowe is an open source framework for z/OS that is highly integrated and extensible. Like many operating systems, Zowe comes with an out-of-the-box set of capabilities, APIs, and applications.
With a goal of making the mainframe open, simple, and familiar, Zowe helps developers better interact with z/OS, with easy-to-use modern interfaces, available out-of-the-box or through plug-ins and extensions created by clients and third-party vendors. Each of Zowe’s key components aim to improve learning, accessibility, and the potential of modern mainframe development.
The Workflow WiZard
The Workflow WiZard, BMC’s first contribution to the Open Mainframe Project, helps developers and systems programmers simplify workflows in the IBM z/OS Management Facility (z/OSMF). Systems programmers use z/OSMF to install, configure, manage, and maintain Z/OS, including IBM and ISV z/OS software products.
The Workflow WiZard makes it easy to create z/OSMF workflows, whether you’re a systems programmer writing workflows for your own shop or an ISV software developer writing a workflow to configure your products.
“We’re excited to bring the combined expertise and experience of BMC, Compuware, and RSM Partners to the Open Mainframe Project to support ongoing innovation on the mainframe... We have a deep relationship and history of collaboration with the Open Mainframe Project and look forward to working with other members for an open-source future of the mainframe.” — John McKenny, SVP and General Manager of Intelligent Z Optimization and Transformation
